Why this is different in Florida
Florida homes often have mixed flooring, like tile in living areas and carpet in bedrooms, over concrete slabs. Water on a slab tends to spread and wick into everything touching it. Carpet padding trapped against a slab in humid conditions can grow mold in a matter of days.
